Our Community

I love that [Peace of Mind] connects mindfulness with conflict resolution. I think mindfulness is a huge missing piece in our schools and I am hoping it makes a difference in my classroom.

Welcome! The Peace of Mind Community includes teachers, counselors, administrators, families, and students at schools around the country passionate about mindfulness-based social and emotional learning.  We are based in Washington DC, where Peace of Mind has been developed at DC’s largest public elementary school since 2003.

Peace of Mind encourages and supports the comprehensive integration of mindfulness-based social and emotional learning in our schools to increase student well-being and create kinder, more inclusive school climates.

We do this by supporting Peace of Mind teachers through regular Community of Practice gatherings and ongoing communication.  We also offer our support to other programs who have the same mission but may be using other programs.

We also have taken the lead in creating, nurturing and supporting a coalition of DC area educators, administrators, parents and others to advance the integration of mindfulness-based SEL programs in DC area schools.

Community of Practice Gatherings

We held our most recent Community of Practice gathering on January 10, 2018, bringing together principals, teachers, counselors who are using Peace of Mind, along with parents and advocates for mindfulness-based SEL education. The conversation was rich and helpful and has guided our efforts to create resources for teachers and parents. If you are interested in a summary of the conversation, just click here.  If you are interested in being invited to future gatherings, please join our mailing list here.

Peace of Mind Community Members say….

There is a much more supportive and mindful environment (at our school) in recent years. I see less bullying kinds of behavior and meanness to each other and more helpfulness and kindness to each other. Teacher, Lafayette E.S. Washington D.C.

I think social/emotional well-being is incredibly important for young children. This curriculum does a great job of teaching seemingly intangible skills to young students. – Pilot Classroom teacher 2017-2018

I highly recommend this curriculum to any and all teachers! – 4th Grade teacher Mr. Catapano
